Frida Kahlo x LMNA Trinket Box — Self-Portrait Dedicated to Dr. Eloesser
We built this one as a sculpture first, a trinket box second. The piece is modeled from Frida Kahlo's 1940 self-portrait dedicated to Dr. Leo Eloesser, and we sculpted her likeness rather than flattening the painting onto a surface — the floral crown raised and individually painted in gold and blush tones, the thorn necklace at her throat, the gold drop earrings, every detail built up by hand. Her bust lifts away to reveal the box beneath, its sides printed with the same tropical foliage from the original canvas and the dedication text reproduced in Kahlo's own handwriting, wrapped around a banner held by a white dove. A gilded rim finishes the edge where sculpture meets box.
